Thank you all for a GREAT start to the season! And we are just getting started! We have done a lot of work making sure your swimmers are placed in the right groups, but if you ever have any questions please let me know!
COMMUNICATION IS KEY!
One of the most important things I like to stress up front is how important communication is! This is both between your swimmer and the coaches AND between you and me! First thing is I want your swimmer to feel totally comfortable with coming to me with anything! I really work to make sure I am approachable to your swimmers and please reinforce this! My main and #1 goal is your swimmer to feel comfortable, important, and happy! Whether it's questions about strokes, other swimmers, etc, they can come to the coaches with anything!
And the same goes for parents! Please feel free to come to me with anything anytime! We as parents are our kid's #1 advocate and believe me I am the same way! We as coaches try to see everything we can in practice, but we do have a good number of swimmers at a time and we will not be able to see everything. So if you ever see anything in your swimmer that you have questions about please let me know! If you think your swimmer is having a hard time picking up a certain technique or stroke let me know! If you tell me then I can make sure we look for it and give the proper instruction! Or if your swimmer is having difficulty with another swimmer- let me know! The last thing I want is for your swimmer to be having a hard time with something, holding it in, and eventually not liking it and wanting to quit! If we know what is going on-whatever it is- we can fix it and make sure your swimmer has the BEST experience possible everyday!!!
MEETS!
We are still finalizing the details, but we DO have potential dates for our first few meets so put them on your calendars now! Once the official meet info is released I will immediately post them on our website and then send out an email for you to sign up. But go ahead and put these dates down and save the dates!
Sept 19-20: Douglas County Aquatic Center
Oct 17-18: Cumming Aquatic Center
Nov 21-22: Dynamo Chamblee
Meets are totally optional, but they are also really great for your swimmers! First, they give purpose to practice! When kids come to swim everyday it can get monotonous, but meets give them a reason to come to practice and helps them understand the reasons we do what we do! And not to mention they are FUN!
Second, meets are the best way for us to track your swimmer's progress! Not only do we get to see your swimmer's drop time, but we get to see what their strokes really look like and how they are learning. Practices can get long and fatigue will set in by the end of practices, but in meets we get to really see how their muscle memory is setting and what their strokes really look like!
And also, meets are great for the coaches! Meets are the best way for us to see what we are NOT doing! If we go to a meet and all our swimmers are struggling with a certain turn or a certain stroke, then we know we are not spending enough time on that certain area and we can adjust our training plan!
I totally understand how crazy life is, but if you have the opportunity to join our meets I would love to have you!!!
PARKING!
Now that school is back in full swing parking will get al little more difficult, as you probably have already seen! For Group 1 swimmers- after school Westminster sports teams get our right about the time we are arriving, hence the large car backup! We do find that sometimes it is just easier to park in the large parking lot on the left side by the large fields before you get to the stop signs. It is a much easier walk than you would think, especially when the carpool line is backed up literally to the entrance of the parking lot!
For Groups 2-4, there will often be Westminster sporting events and parking will be very limited. This same lot is a great place to go, or always feel free to drop your swimmer off if easier!
I appreciate your patience with this and it does get better as the season goes on!
Thank you again for being a part of our program, and let me know if you ever need anything at all!!!
Thank you!
Coach Danny
